The Playhouse – A Theatregoer’s Guide

Photo of The Playhouse Theatre in LondonThe Playhouse Theatre is a West End theatre with 786 seats. It was rebuilt in 1907 and refurbished in 1997. Inside you’ll usually find a standard proscenium arch stage, although the stalls area can be laid out differently. You’ll also see some ornate decorations.

Which are the best seats at The Playhouse?

Foyer of The Playhouse theatre in London There are three levels- Stalls, Dress Circle and Upper Circle. The latter is usually cheapest but it’s a bit far from the action. I would recommend the Stalls for view and comfort but the Circle is fine. There isn’t a lot of rake in the Stalls but the seats are staggered so you should be able to see between the people in front. Some of the seats to very sides at all levels may have a restricted view. For the best view, I’d sit in the middle of the centre of the Stalls.

The facilities are pretty good. According to a survey by The Stage newspaper, it’s the best commercial theatre in the West End for ladies’ toilets (men’s are rarely a problem!).

The bars are small but there are four- the ones serving the stalls are in the foyer and in the basement. The other levels have their own bars.
